Marlins Held Scoreless in St. Louis

The Cardinals ended Miami's four-game winning streak on Saturday with their shutout victory

The Miami Marlins saw their four-game winning streak come to an end in their 5-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.

Tom Koehler made the start for Miami and had trouble with his efficiency. A tremendous defensive effort from his teammates stopped this from being an even wider margin. Koehler ended up lasting only four innings and fell to 6-8 on the season with a 4.68 E.R.A.

Koehler allowed four of the runs on seven hits and three walks. The Cardinals likely would have padded their lead if not for two diving catches by Giancarlo Stanton and one leaping grab from Adeiny Hechavarria. Miami is one of the best defensive teams in Major League Baseball this season and that showed in Saturday's loss.

Mike Dunn gave manager Don Mattingly two innings of relief which was a welcome sight after Koehler's short start. Dunn allowed a run during his time on the mound, but was otherwise decent. The lefty helped save another arm for Sunday's series finale with his extended workload.

Adam Wainwright shut Miami's offense down and kept it quiet for the entire night. St. Louis' ace turned back the clock with an effort that was reminiscent of his days as an All-Star. The Marlins only managed three hits against Wainwright during his complete game. The veteran right-hander struck out five and walked two.

With a chance to win the series, Miami will hand the ball to Adam Conley on Sunday.
