A 13 year veteran of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was forced to shoot an armed burglar early Monday morning at a bank.
According to NBC affiliate WPTV, the incident occurred shortly after 6 AM at a Chase bank in Jensen Beach. Officials say the burglar, identified as 47 year old Gerard Bellafiore of Dania Beach, used a device to slice open the door of the night deposit box and then used a fishing gaff to hook receipts.
Bellafiore reportedly attacked the deputy before being shot multiple times. He was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
The deputy’s name was not released. MCSO says that Bellafiore has an extensive criminal history, including numerous arrests for similar crimes
