Miami Approves Upgrading Marine Stadium Grounds

The 2016 Miami International Boat Show will be held at the historic Miami Marine Stadium after the city of Miami approved a $16 million bond to finance an upgrade to the surrounding area.

According to the Miami Herald, Miami commissioners voted unanimously to upgrade the grounds. In addition, the Herald reported the commission approved a license agreement that would pay the city $1.1 million per year in rent plus more from concessions and parking.

The move comes after the city killed a proposal to redevelop the stadium and area from a group called the Friends of Miami Marine Stadium.

According to the Herald, the city will pay for roadway improvements, draining, lighting, and an electrical grid among other items for the area. The Herald said a proposal to restore the concrete stadium should be presented to the commission in the next few months.
