Miami Boxing Center Renamed for Muhammad Ali

A boxing center at a Miami-Dade County park is being renamed for Muhammad Ali, whose championship professional career was launched in South Florida.

The center at Tropical Park will now be called the ``Muhammad Ali Boxing Center'' after its name was officially changed by the Miami-Dade County Commission. Commissioner Javier Souto says the move ensures Ali's name will live on through the training of future generations of boxers.

Ali died June 3 at age 74 after a battle with Parkinson's Disease. Early in his career, he trained at the 5th Street Gym in Miami Beach, which has since moved to a new location. One of Ali's greatest victories was in 1964 over then-heavyweight champion Sonny Liston in Miami Beach.
