No Bond for Man Accused of Broward Kidnapping

A man who caused an Amber Alert to be issued after he drove off in a car with a 3-year-old boy in the backseat in Broward was ordered held without bond Monday.

William James Benjamin Rogers, 27, made his first appearance in court a day after he was arrested on charges of kidnapping, child neglect without great bodily harm, grand theft auto and dealing in stolen property.

Authorities said Rogers drove to a gas station on W. Sunrise Boulevard late Saturday with 3-year-old Lee Parish and Parish's mother's boyfriend. When the mother's boyfriend went out to pump gas, Rogers drove off in the burgundy Ford Fusion with Parish sleeping in the back seat, officials said.

Rogers dropped off the boy at a home in Fort Lauderdale, where he was found unharmed. Rogers was found and arrested.

Prosecutors said Rogers was released on bond on Nov. 4 for two cases of grand theft.
