Family Searching for Answers After Man Shot, Killed in Opa-locka

A man died after he was shot by a robber, who also stole his iPhone and gold chain Monday in Opa-locka.

The robbery happened at 90 Bahman Avenue, according to Opa-locka police.

Manny Lira told NBC 6 he was talking on the phone with his friend Omar Alvarez when he heard a scuffle and then the call cutting off.

Police said someone in a white vehicle drove up to Alvarez, 29, outside of his home and shot him.

"They shot him first, and then they took the chain and the phone when he was on the floor," Avarez's father said.

He was shot in the knee and in his side. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

"It hurts man," Lira said. "It just hurts."

Anyone with information about this crime should call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Tips with that lead to an arrest may be eligible for an award up to $3,000. Alvarez's family is also offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who knows who the shooter is.
