A man was arrested in connection with a shooting that injured three people during an illegal street racing takeover over the weekend in northwest Miami-Dade.

The alleged shooter, identified by police as 20-year-old Michael Trillo of Opa-locka, had been arrested in January for an illegal street racing incident in August 2022.

Trillo faces several charges in connection with Sunday's incident, including three counts of attempted felony murder, records say.

Cellphone video showed the chaotic moments of the street racing takeover. It all happened Sunday morning at the intersection of NW 146th Street and NW 7th Avenue, where a group of people had gathered for a street takeover.

In a video obtained from Only in Dade, one car slides into another — and the driver of that car is seen getting out with what appears to be a gun in his hand. Seconds later, gunshots are fired.

Surveillance footage shows the chaos from another perspective — people are seen running away and into their cars, while gunshots are heard in the distance.

In an arrest affidavit, police said while performing a donut maneuver, Trillo collided with another vehicle. Trillo then got out of his car, and started shooting, hitting the two people in the other vehicle and striking another bystander. The victims were people between the ages of 19 and 20, officials said.

Trillo was later identified as the suspected shooter and was taken into custody Wednesday at his Opa-locka apartment. He was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

These illegal street racing takeovers have become common in South Florida. There are dedicated units working to arrest the organizers.
