Police are investigating a Monday morning shooting in Hollywood that left one man dead and area schools on lockdown.

Officers responded to the scene near the 800 block of North 73rd Avenue just before 7 a.m. after reports of someone being shot in the area.

When they arrived, the officers found a man suffering from injuries consistent with a shooting, officials said.

The man was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said. His identity hasn't been released.

"The officers rendered aid to the subject, and he was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital where unfortunately he succumbed to his wounds," Hollywood Police spokesman Christian Lata said.

A perimeter was established in the area, and nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

“The incident had nothing to do with the school, but because of the proximity to the school, and during the search and during the investigation, children were being dropped off, we decided to put a lockdown on the school," Lata said.

Police said a resident's doorbell camera captured two men who are considered persons of interest in the shooting.

No other information was immediately known.
