Teen Shot After Allegedly Being Involved in Stolen Car Incident

A Florida teen was shot by an officer after being involved in a stolen vehicle incident.

Officials said a 17-year-old boy stole a red Camaro in Lakeland, and then drove around Osceola County.

That’s where deputies encountered him and tried to blow out the car’s tires.

When deputies tried to approach the vehicle, the teen drove towards them, causing one deputy to fire into the Camaro.

“He had no choice but to do what he did and to quell the threat that he was faced with at that moment,” said Sheriff Russ Gibson of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen was wounded and was taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

A 15-year-old girl was also inside the car, but she was not injured.

The teen’s identity has not been released. He is currently charged with attempted murder of a law officer and grand theft auto.
