Tourist Killer Gets Life in Prison

A jury had recommended the death penalty for Brandon Rolle

A Miami man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for shooting a killing a tourist in Coconut Grove during a robbery attempt, a judge ruled Wednesday.

In February, a Miami-Dade jury recommended the death penalty for 26-year-old Brandon Antron Rolle, who was convicted of first-degree murder in October.

Rolle shot and killed Illinois tourist Ronald Gentile, who was lost and stopped to ask for directions in 2006.

Rolle's fingerprints were found on Gentile's rental car and Rolle's girlfriend testified her boyfriend had her pawn the tourist's belongings.

Catherine Girten, Gentile's ex-wife, said she was pleased to hear Rolle would be spending the rest of his life in prison.

"A crime like murder should not go unpunished," she said. "The comfort is knowing he will be in prison the rest of his life."
