Ultra Music Festival is coming back to downtown Miami.
The motion passed 3-2 at the city commissioners meeting Thursday. Joe Carollo and Ken Russell had the "no" votes.
The festival will returned to Bayfront Park in March 2020.
Dozens of people, mostly downtown Miami residents, lined up inside the commission chamber that morning to plead with officials about keeping the popular electronic music festival away from their homes after the Virginia Key venue, where it was held this year, was not a good fit.
"No one is asking you to get rid of Ultra," one resident said. "We're just saying, keep it out of Bayfront Park."
While hundreds of thousands attended the event each year, issues such as noise and traffic caused residents in the area around the park to become vocal critics against the event.
Months after the 2018 festival, the city ended their deal with the promoters in charge of the event – forcing a move to Virginia Key that lasted one year before it was announced in May that it would not be returning to that location.
Since then, cities such as Homestead and Miami Beach – which hosted the first two Ultra festivals in the late 1990s – have expressed interest in hosting the event.
