Underwater Art Gallery Debuts Off Key West

The world's second-largest artificial reef is now home to an underwater art exhibition.

On Saturday and Sunday, divers installed a dozen 3-foot by 4.5-foot photo illustrations on the deck of the sunken Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg.

The sunken ship lies 90 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean at the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, located roughly seven miles south of Key West.

The artwork was created by Austrian art photographer Andreas Franke.

To keep the artwork from getting waterlogged, each piece is encased in Plexiglas, mounted in stainless steel frames and sealed with silicone.

It's not the first time Franke has showcased underwater art on the former Air Force missile tracking ship turned sunken artificial reef.

A similar exhibition took place back in 2011.
