‘Witch Hunt Ends Here': Miramar Man Cid Torrez Rants at Hearing

Torrez faces 30 years to life after he was convicted in wife's killing

A Miramar man who was convicted in the murder of his estranged wife who disappeared more than five years ago was back in court Monday, where he had another bizarre encounter.

Cid Torrez, 43, faces 30 years to life in prison after he was found guilty in July of second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Vilet.

At the end of a hearing Monday, he asked to address the court but was denied, and that's when he turned to the audience and a TV camera.

"Get a hold of the FBI or the Secret Service," Torrez said. "The witch hunt ends here, tell that to the President of the United States. It's important, please."

Deputies escorted Torrez out of the courtroom. Another hearing has been scheduled for Friday.

Torrez was expected to be sentenced earlier this month at another sentencing hearing, but started speaking about the president and a witch hunt, and had been ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.

Five years ago, the Miramar couple's marriage was on the rocks when police believe Vilet Torrez vanished in the early hours of March 31, 2012. Her body was never found.

Prosecutors presented evidence that cadaver dogs led investigators to Cid Torrez's house and the trunk of his Jaguar, which they believe he used to dump Vilet's body in the Everglades. Traces of blood were also found on a towel in the home, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors also presented evidence that Torrez was tracking Vilet with spy software on her cellphone. They cited Sunpass records, surveillance footage and his own daughter's testimony to support their theory that he murdered her.
