World Class Soccer Tournament Returns to Sunshine State

The second edition of the Florida Cup soccer tournament returns to the Sunshine State with a stellar lineup of world class soccer clubs including South Florida's very own Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

The Strikers join teams from Brazil, Germany, Spain and Colombia in an 11-day tournament being played at various locations in Central and South Florida.

Nine teams in total are set to dispute the 2016 Florida Cup including two-time FIFA World Champion SC Corinthians (Brazil)  and Champions League club Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Germany).

A special treat for soccer fans will be the return of Brazil's soccer legend Ronaldinho who is scheduled to come out of retirement to play with Fluminense FC.

The tournament will also feature several marquee soccer super stars such as Mexico's National team player, Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez whose current team,  Germany's Bayern Leverkusen will square off against Colombia's South American Cup Independiente Santa Fe.

South Florida's own Fort Lauderdale Strikers will open the Florida Cup at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando when they play against German powerhouse Shalke 04 on Jan. 10 facing Colombia's Santa Fe one week later when they play at FAU's stadium in Boca Raton.

Other matches in South Florida include Schalke 04 vs Atletico MG and Fluminense vs Inter at Lockheart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale and the match between Atletico MG vs Corinthians at FAU in Boca Raton.

The Florida Cup starts Sunday, Jan. 10 through Jan. 20 with an All-Star Game being played on Saturday, Jan. 20 at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Orlando.
