The Florida Marlins managed just one run and four hits against left-hander Barry Zito, who hasn't exactly had a winning season.
But Zito has always had good luck in Miami against the Marlins and Friday night was no different.
Assisted by Pablo Sandoval, who hit a two-run homer off Marlins right-hander Chris Volstad, Zito was able to end a four-game losing streak, bringing his record to a lackluster 2-6.
The Marlins only run came in the sixth inning when Zito walked the first two batters and was replaced by Medders. A one-out single by Ronny Paulino loaded the bases. Alejandro De Aza hit a sacrifice fly to foul territory in left field that scored Cantu from third. Medders retired pinch-hitter Ross Gload to end the inning.
Volstad (4-5) worked six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits in a game that started 55 minutes late because of rain.
