Marlins' Stanton, Yelich, Prado Named All-Star Ambassadors

Marlins players Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich and Martin Prado were named All-Star Game ambassadors

Miami Marlins players Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich and Martin Prado were named All-Star Game ambassadors on Wednesday.

The trio was chosen by Major League Baseball to represent the Marlins and promote the game in Miami. Earlier this season, Jeff Conine and Hall of Famer Tony Perez were also named as ambassadors for the week.

Yelich and Prado will be on-hand for All-Star Game FanFest on July 10th and 11th at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Stanton will not be in attendance, as he will be preparing for the Home Run Derby. The slugger will look to defend his title on the evening of the 11th.

"It will be good for the city of Miami," Yelich told MLB.com. "I'm excited to see Stanton in the Home Run Derby, defending his title. He won it last year. He's really tough to beat in that format."

There will be other events attended by the ambassadors, but it is known at this time which players may appear. All five ambassadors are expected to be in attendance for the HR Derby and the All-Star Game the following day. In Stanton's case, he may be on the roster for the game as well.

With All-Star Game voting coming to a close on Thursday evening, Marcell Ozuna sits in third place among National League outfielders. Stanton was listed as sixth in the last update, but could end up in the game as a reserve. N.L. manager Joe Maddon could elect to use Stanton as his starting designated hitter as well.

In addition to Ozuna and Stanton, Miami could have other All-Stars in the mix. Justin Bour and J.T. Realmuto have both had solid first halves, but could lose out in a numbers game. Realmuto would likely have the better chance of the two, but Bour could help his chances with a big series against the New York Mets.

Miami will try to win a third straight game, when it hosts the Mets on Wednesday evening at 7:10 p.m.
