Riley Gives Assist to Movie Star's Drug-Dealing Son

Pat Riley is longtime friends with Michael Douglas

Star power can get you a lot of influence in this world, but it's unclear if it can keep you out of prison.

Michael Douglas' son, Cameron, could spent the next decade in a New York prison after he pleaded guilty to drug charges, but his movie star daddy has called in some big guns to put a full court press on the judge in the case.

That starting five included Miami Heat President Pat Riley, who wrote a three-page letter begging the judge to "save this 'ONE.'"

According to the New York Post, Riley's handwritten letter was one of four sent to federal judge by names you might recognize.

Famous actor and Cameron Douglas' grandfather, Kirk, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas all wrote letters begging for leniency.

Cameron Douglas, 31, was arrested at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York on July 28, 2008 after a drug raid. Authorities found Douglas living in a hotel room paid for by his dad and strung out on crystal meth and other drugs. He was the alleged middleman in a shipment of crystal meth from New York to California.

Then, while on house arrest, Douglas allegedly had his girlfriend try to sneak him some drugs in an electronic tooth brush.

Riley is a close family friend of Michael Douglas from his days as the Los Angeles Lakers coach in the 1980s and with the New York Knicks in the 90s.

But we are kind of concerned because we don't recall any reports of Riley stepping up in front of a judge for any of the Heat players who have had recent run ins with the law. Maybe it's a sign of things to come. Keep your fingers crossed Dorell Wright.

On official Miami Heat stationery, Riley asked the New york judge for "an honest and appropriate sentence," whatever that means. He also asked the judge to send Cameron Douglas to a place that focuses on drug rehab and education. Would you like to make sure young Douglas has a flat screen TV to watch the playoffs, too, Mr. Riley?

"Cameron is not a criminal," Riley wrote.

Actually, Riles, he is.
