Marlins Snap Four Game Skid

Henderson Alvarez led the Marlins to a 2-0 win on Tuesday to end a four-game losing skid

The Miami Marlins put an end to a four-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The win kept Miami's hopes alive of finishing with a .500 record. To complete that, the Marlins would have to finish the year on a seven-game winning streak including four in Washington, D.C. Tuesday's win was big in terms of staying out of the basement as Miami now leads Philadelphia by 4.5 games.

Henderson Alvarez pitched magnificently again in what was his last home start of 2014. With 7.2 scoreless innings, Alvarez ends up with a 1.60 E.R.A at Marlins Park this year. When factoring in his road starts, the right-hander has a 2.70 E.R.A with one start to go. That start will come on the last day of the season on Sunday.

Alvarez allowed five hits, walked one and struck out two. The walk came to the final batter he faced in this one as he tried to finish an eighth inning of work. The win was the 12th of the season for Alvarez which paces Miami.

Mike Dunn finished off the eighth inning and then handed the ball over to Steve Cishek in the ninth. The closer completed the game for his 38th save of the season.

Casey McGehee picked up his 71st run batted in of the season and Ed Lucas added his ninth. The Marlins scored a run in the fourth and another in the fifth. Christian Yelich also doubled for the 29th time of the year and he is finishing his first full big-league season well.

The Marlins will send Brad Hand to the mound on Wednesday when they look to win the series.
