Marlins' McGehee Receiving Global Support For All-Star Game

Casey McGehee is a part of MLB.com's Final Vote and is getting a helping hand from as far as Japan

Miami Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee is currently on the outside looking in for the 2014 All-Star Game but many are trying to change that.

The Marlins showed support for their teammate by wearing shirts promoting #VoteHitsMcGehee before Monday's game. That hashtag is the one that Major League Baseball is using as part of its Final Vote.

Last year McGehee was a member of the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Nippon Professional Baseball league in Japan. That team won the Japan Series which is the annual championship and currently sits as the defending title holders. The Eagles are doing their best to support McGehee including former MLB All-Star, Andruw Jones who played alongside him in 2013 in Japan.

McGehee leads the National League in hits with 110 and is fourth in batting average overall. He's enjoying a season that could net him Comeback Player of the Year honors, but yet currently he is not a member of the National League roster for the All-Star Game.

The Marlins have one representative headed to Minnesota and that is outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. McGehee is the man who has hit behind Stanton on most days this season and has provided tremendous protection. While Stanton would likely still post robust numbers regardless, McGehee has undoubtedly helped the slugger see a few extra fastballs.

Heading into Tuesday's game in Arizona, McGehee is riding a career high 14-game hitting streak. That's all part of what is a 21-game road hitting streak for the third baseman. The statistical defense for McGehee can go on endlessly but for now, he needs help to make the game.

Fans can vote for McGehee in the MLB.com Final Vote which ends on Thursday July 10th at 4:00 p.m. The top vote-getter from each league will be added to the All-Star Game rosters.

The 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday July 15th.
