Looking for a fast, easy way to get in on the “going green” trend? (Yup, we said trend. And now we’ll expect every hippie-founded organization on the planet to write in and tell us protecting the environment is not a trend. Save the paper and energy it takes to send an e-mail. We already know.) Where were we, oh, yeah, going green. If you want to get in on the action, all you have to do is turn the lights off March 28. That’s it.
Why should you sit around in the dark from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.? Simple, it’s The World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour. And this year it's encouraging 240 cities to go dark to bring awareness to climate change.
Miami, one of the cities scheduled to fade to black, is encouraging businesses around town to flip the switch and revert to candlelight for the hour. Expect lots of “black out sales” and “earth happy hours” to spring up. Drunk people shopping in the dark? Maybe those hippies are on to something after all.
