Classmates Step Up for South Florida Boy Battling Cancer

Second grader Seth Oliva didn't make it to school Thursday. Last month the 7-year-old was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoma and he just received chemo treatment.

His classmate, Fabricio Pella, has been sitting next to Seth's empty desk for the past three and a half weeks.

"He's my best friend, and I hope he's feeling better," Pella said.

Seth's teachers and classmates are serious about him feeling better, so they decided to do something about it.

"We're a big family. One of our family members is sick, we're gonna be out there to support them and do whatever we can to help," teacher Tatiana Viques said.

At Highland Oaks Elementary, kids and teachers donned superhero shirts instead of uniforms and made dollar donations to help Seth's family pay for his cancer treatment.

"He was a really good friend and I hope he comes back soon and feels better," classmate Joselme Pierre said.

So far the school has collected nearly $1,800 and held a message for the A-student: "Seth, you are our superhero."
