Driver Charged After Fatally Running Over Man in Northwest Miami-Dade: Police

Police say evidence shows the victim was struck by the vehicle and dragged through a yard

A driver is facing second-degree murder charges after allegedly fatally running over a man in Northwest Miami-Dade Sunday morning, police said.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. in the area of Northwest 101st Street and 29th Avenue, Miami-Dade Police officials said.

According to an arrest report, the driver, 22-year-old Kristien Colon, told police he was being robbed by two men.

Colon said he was punched and placed in a choke hold by the eventual victim, while a second person fired at him with a pistol, the report says.

During the altercation, Colon said he passed out - entering the car once he came to. That's when he told police he saw the victim deceased, and the second person armed with a firearm, according to the report.

Police say evidence shows the victim was struck by the vehicle and dragged through a yard, but no evidence of a shooting was found at the scenes of the crime.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.
