Miami Firefighters Rescue Kitten from Flames

Firefighters rescued a kitten from a Miami duplex engulfed in flames on Saturday afternoon.

Just before 3:30 p.m., Miami Fire Rescue responded to reports of heavy flames and smoke showing from a two-story abandoned duplex located at 1452 NW 44th Street.

Crews battled the blaze for 20 minutes while protecting neighboring homes from the intense flames, officials say.

While searching for victims, firefighters found a 3-week-old kitten barely alive. The kitten was treated and cleaned by paramedics on scene. After searching the area for the mother cat, firefighters decided to take the kitten back to the fire station.

Firefighters named the kitten smokey, and he is in need of a good home. Anyone wanting to adopt smokey can go to Miami Fire Station #12 located at 1455 NW 46th Street.

They were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
