North Miami Man Charged With Animal Cruelty: Police

A North Miami man was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after police found a dog chained up behind his home with no food or water.

Police were at the home, located in the 1400 block of Northeast 142nd Street, on an unrelated case when investigators spotted the emaciated American Bulldog/Pitbull mix chained up in the backyard.

According to a police report, the dog was tethered by a short leash to a tree with no shelter from the elements. The dog did not have food or water, and was completely emaciated, police say.

Investigators also noted that the dog's toes and feet were bleeding and that the animal could barely walk or stand.

Police arrested 25-year-old Wilson Metelus and charged him with animal cruelty with intent to injure or kill.

There was also a warrant cast on Metelus for knowingly driving with a suspended license.

Metelus was taken to jail and ordered held on $5,000 bond on the animal cruelty charge, and $1,000 bond on the suspended license charge.

It is not known if he has hired an attorney.
