Norwegian Gives Miami Homeless Shelter $5 Million

Cruise line gives big donation to Camillus House

Norwegian Cruise Line plans to donate $5 million to a Miami homeless shelter.

The Miami-based cruise line will officially announce the donation to the 50-year-old Camillus House Thursday morning at the construction site for a new complex near the Overtown community.

Officials say the donation will be paid over 15 years. It marks the largest corporate donation to Camillus House. The center will be called the Norwegian Cruise Line Campus of Camillus House.

The current center in downtown Miami houses about 268 people. Many sleep on mats in an outdoor courtyard. The new center will include a large kitchen, dining hall, recreation areas and more beds.
