Suspect Named After Shots Fired Outside Miami Carol City High School

Police responded to a shooting outside Carol City Senior High School in Miami Gardens Wednesday.

The shots were fired on Miami Gardens Drive outside the school and a school office window was hit, Miami-Dade County Public School officials said. School officials had initially reported that a student was shot in the busway outside the school at 3301 Miami Gardens Drive, but later said there were no injuries.

Miami-Dade Schools Police said they are looking for Stanley Ragin, 19, for his alleged involvement in the shooting. They said he was seen running away from the scene with a firearm.

The shooting was reported around 3 p.m., about an hour after students were let out. Police said at least eight shots were fired. They said the gunfire was aimed at someone walking in front of the school, not the school itself. The person targeted, not a student, reportedly fired back.

One student fell while running away after hearing gunshots and received some minor scrapes.

The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution for the after-school programs. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed they responded to the scene.

The school said it's requesting a Crisis Management Team to respond to the school in the morning.

"It appears the school got caught in the crossfire between two rival entities; that's being investigated. One in the car driving east and the other walking west on the same street," said Alberto Carvalho, MDCPS Superintendent.

Police said Stanley has a violent history and should be considered armed and dangerous. They said he's a known gang member and currently has active warrants for his arrest.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
