Alvarez Continues Strong Season With 11th Win

Henderson Alvarez won his 11th game of the season on Wednesday continuing what has been an excellent season

The Miami Marlins won their series against the New York Mets with a 4-3 victory on Wednesday.

Henderson Alvarez continued what has been a great season for him with his 11th win. Alvarez who took over as the ace of the staff with Jose Fernandez gone now has a 2.82 E.R.A as well. The right-hander allowed two runs on eight hits in his six innings for a quality start.

Following Alvarez's effort, Mike Dunn and A.J. Ramos worked a scoreless seventh inning. Chris Hatcher allowed a run in the eighth inning which cut the Miami lead to only one.

Steve Cishek made that run hold up with his 37th save in the ninth inning in 1-2-3 fashion.

Reed Johnson made a second straight start in the revolving door known as right-field but had a rough day going 0-2. It is likely Johnson will go back to his role off the bench with manager Mike Redmond mixing and matching other names in the corner outfield spot.

Marcell Ozuna who has been in the cleanup spot the past week had a three-hit game to lift his average to .271. Donovan Solano also had three hits and a run scored to go along with his 26th run batted in this year. Casey McGehee had a pair of hits and a run scored out of the three hole in the lineup.

Brad Hand will take the mound on Thursday when the Marlins return home for their final homestand of 2014. Their opponent will be the Washington Nationals who clinched the division title on Tuesday.
