    Fort Lauderdale is launching a free app, Parker, in which drivers can see available parking spaces in real time. Fort Lauderdale resident Bradley Haring and valet driver Alvaro Valle spoke about the app.

    The city is launching a free app called Parker, where drivers can see available parking spaces in real time.

    Sensors in the pavement detect the open spaces and the app gives the location and availability web-enabled devices including smartphones and tablets.

    Hazmat crews help rescue a 600-pound man trapped in his own home in Upper Burrell Township, Pennsylvania.

    Drivers can also use the app to pay for parking, track how much time remains on the meters or get walking directions to find their parking space. It also has a voice hands-free feature which gives audible cues when parking nearby is available.

    The app is working in the area near Florida Atlantic University and the Broward College campuses.

    The city worked with Streetline Inc., to develop the app. The company has worked with the cities of Los Angeles, Indianapolis and Washington, D.C., among others.
