Hollywood police say a man was able to turn the tables on a pair of would-be female robbers who were trying to steal his wallet, fending them off with his crutches.

William Joseph Knowles was hobbling to his car in the 2800 block of Hollywood Boulevard on Monday morning when he was approached by 21-year-old Veronica Lane and 22-year-old Amber McKay, who was wearing a bikini, according to a Hollywood Police report.

According to the report, the women began talking to Knowles, who was on crutches from a recent fracture to his tibia bone. At one point, McKay reached into his back pants pocket to try to grab his wallet while Lane tried to restrain him, the report said.

"Knowles stated he was in fear for his life at which time he fought off both subjects using his crutches," the report said.

The women fled the scene but were later caught at a motel after Knowles gave police a description.

Both were charged with robbery and were being held Wednesday on $7,500 bond. It was unknown whether either has an attorney.
