Alleged Fake Doc, Clinic Owner Arrested In Miami

Teobaldo Humberto Fuentes and Jina Fuentes are accused of practicing medicine without a license

A Miami clinic owner has been arrested one day after her her husband was charged with practicing medicine without a license, Miami police said.

Jina Fuentes was arrested Thursday and also charged with practicing medicine without a license.

She is listed as the owner of the Clinica La Caridad at 285 NW 27 Avenue in Miami, where Teobaldo Humberto Fuentes, 46, was busted Wednesday for allegedly posing as a doctor.

Teobaldo Fuentes was also charged with prescription fraud and unlicensed practice of a health care profession.

Signs posted at the clinic said they offer gynecological and physical exams as well as free back to school vaccinations for children.

Teobaldo Fuentes was in Miami-Dade court Thursday and ordered held on $5,000 bond.

Broward County court records show Teobaldo Fuentes was arrested in 2009 and charged by Fort Lauderdale Police with trafficking oxycodone. His next court hearing in that case is Oct. 7.

Fuentes was licensed as a basic x-ray machine operator, according to the Florida Department of Health website, but that expired in 2004.

Police said he has not held a license as a medical doctor anywhere in the United States.

As police took Fuentes from the clinic to a patrol car on Wednesday, he refused to comment to reporters about what kind of training he had.

It wasn’t immediately known if he had an attorney.

MPD's Pharmaceutical Diversion Taskforce is investigating along with the Florida Department of Health Unlicensed Activities Office and the US Food and Drug Administration Office of Criminal Investigations.

Investigators are urging anyone that might have received medical attention from Fuentes or his wife to contact them, and to contact a licensed medical practitioner.
