Officers arrived at the scene near Northwest 66th Street and 12th Avenue after the shooting just before 3 a.m., where the 5-year-old was found in her mother's arms and rushed to the operating room at Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.

Jonathan Craig, 41, of Miami, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and faces multiple charges including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated child abuse, according to an arrest affidavit.

Miami Police Department PIO Kiara Delva said the child was hit after the bullet went through a window and struck her.

When he returned, a witness screamed at him, "You did this!" He replied, "I f----d up," the affidavit stated.

A handgun was recovered at the scene with one magazine inserted containing 13 live rounds, police said.

Craig remained in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday night. Attorney information wasn't available.
