Family Seeks Answers After Man Left Critically Injured in Miami-Dade Hit-and-Run Crash

A man remained in critical condition Friday nearly two weeks after a mysterious hit-and-run in southwest Miami-Dade.

Aldo Veras remains in the ICU at Kendall Regional Hospital with broken ribs, a concussion and other serious injuries after being run over by a car.

It's unclear what happened to him the morning of Aug. 29. His brother said the father of four was out with his friends in the early hours of the morning when he was struck.

"The only thing that we know after is that he got a concussion injury and we come running to the hospital and he's fight for his life at that time," Julio Veras said.

The crash report said Aldo was crossing the street near Southwest 23rd Lane and 153rd Avenue when he was hit.

"It's sad, you know, very sad because I never imagined one minute to the other, they can change his life, you know," Julio Veras said.

Neighbors near the crash site said it's quite dark on the street and said people zoom by all the time, so they're not surprised it happened.

There was no surveillance video so police have no car description.

Aldo is conscious but in bad shape. He hasn't been able to talk but his family hopes someone can help them figure out who the driver is.

"I think it's just to get to the bottom of the mystery that we have and try to get it out you know and if you see something because I want my brother to get well," Julio Veras said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
