Man Killed in Shooting During Apparent Robbery at Cutler Bay Home

Police are investigating after a man was ambushed and fatally shot during an apparent robbery at his Cutler Bay home late Tuesday.

Officers arrived at the home located in the 22200 block of Southwest 99th Avenue just after 11 p.m. and found the 31-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound, Miami-Dade Police officials said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue workers responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was later identified as Daniel Macko.

Investigators said they believe the suspect or suspects were waiting outside the home until someone arrived. When Macko opened the front door, he was ambushed by the suspect or suspects, who forced their way into the home and shot Macko.

The unidentified suspect or suspects took items from the home and fled in a black Dodge van, which may have been used in a previous robbery, according to police.

Macko's family, who referred to him as Elijah, said in a statement Wednesday evening that Macko leaves behind a wife and three young children.

"We are reeling from the loss of our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend," a statement from the family said in part. "...We ask anyone who saw something or has any information about the murderers who took his life - please come forward. His children - his entire family - deserve the solace of knowing those who committed this evil act will face justice."

A GoFundMe was established to aid in funeral costs.

Neighbors were shocked to learn of the shooting early Wednesday.

"It's pretty sad, really, really sad," Sandra Dyer said. "Never, never, something like this ever has ever happened here."

Ishmael Sevilla said he heard police sirens shortly after the crime happened.

"It scares me because it's my neighborhood and like if that happened right there to anybody, that can happen to us," Sevilla said.
