A South Florida organization is not letting a Grinch ruin Christmas. Packages meant for needy families were stolen earlier this week and thankfully the organization was able to get more gifts and give them out.
Nearly 50 children received many surprises, including bicycles, on Sunday at Kendall Indian Hammocks Park.
“Every child receives at least five toys from their wish list. A new outfit, a pair of shoes, pajamas, socks and underwear,” said Angie Medina of the Santa’s Helpers organization.
An alleged package thief almost put a wrench in Santa’s plans. On December 13th, a doorbell camera caught a man taking several packages from Medina’s home near SW 97th Ave and Sunset Drive. Medina and her organization had been collecting gifts for months.
“It’s like the Grinch – trying to steal Christmas. All we’re trying to do is a positive thing during this time to bring people together,” said Medina.
Dozens of people stepped in and opened their wallets and hearts to make sure every child had their Christmas wish.
The annual Santa’s Helpers picnic featured dance performances, games and lots of smiles. It’s the generous spirit of giving that truly made a difference this year.

“This is what Christmas is all about,” said Medina. “Giving to those less fortunate.”
