The Fernandez family in Kendall say their adopted dog Thanos is the polar opposite of the villain you may know from the Avengers movies.

As NBC 6 works to Clear the Shelters, we want to introduce you to a family who recently adopted a dog that at just about two years old already weighs 140 pounds.

His name is Thanos, but the Fernandez family in Kendall say he is the polar opposite of the villain you may know from the Avengers movies.

"Every time I come home from work, he comes up to the door and always wants to play," Emily Fernandez said.

The Fernandez family said Thanos actually chose to adopt them, not only because another owner who adopted him first gave him back, but the family lost their dog of nine years just a few weeks earlier.

"We went away on vacation, left her in boarding, she ended up having a heart attack on our way back home to pick her up," Andrea Fernandez said. "He's brought so much love and helped in the grieving process."

NBC 6 and Telemundo 51 are participating in the Clear the Shelters event on Saturday, August 17. For more information and shelter locations, click here.
