Two teenagers have been arrested in connection to a deadly robbery in Opa-Locka. NBC6’s Jamie Guirola explains.

Police have arrested two teens in connection to a deadly shooting in Opa-Locka.

Jaquavius Matthews, 18, and a juvenile were arrested Wednesday in the Memorial Day murder of Omar Alvarez, according to an arrest report.

According to police, the suspects approached the victim and demanded his valuables. That’s when one of them shot 29-year-old Alvarez outside of his mother’s home. He later died at the hospital.

Family members told NBC 6 that the man demanded Alvarez’s belongings, shot him and then stole his iPhone and gold chain.

"They shot him four times, took the fake gold chain and the phone,” father Omar Alvarez, Sr. said. “For $40-50 bucks, they killed my son.”

The family said Alvarez was a truck driver and leaves behind two young daughters, ages 2 and 5.

Police said Matthews, along with the other suspects, then tried to sell Alvarez’s personal belongings.

Matthews, along with the other suspect, is being charged with first degree murder and armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

Arrests Made in Opa-locka Fatal Robbery Shooting

Police have not yet released any information pertaining to a third suspect named in the report.
