A viewing will be held Sunday for Lauderhill firefighter Joshua Schwabenbauer, who died this week as a result of injuries sustained during an off-duty boating accident on Labor Day.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, family, friends and fellow firefighters will pay their respects at The Star of David Funeral Chapel at 7701 Bailey Road in North Lauderdale.

On Monday, Schwabenbauer was boating in Haulover Beach when he suffered a head and spinal cord injury. Two other off-duty firefighters performed CPR after he was found in the water by a bystander and pulled onto a boat.

Schwabenbauer was transported to Aventura Medical Center in critical condition and then to Memorial Regional Hospital. He died with family and friends by his side.

The 26-year-old was a five-year veteran of the department and had also served as a lifeguard for the City of Lauderhill and the City of Pompano Beach Fire Rescue. Donations to his memorial fund can be sent to Lauderhill Firefighters Benevolent Association, in care of Joshua Schwabenbauer, 1980 NW 56 Ave. in Lauderhill.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday at Temple Beth Torah, located at 5700 NW 94th Ave. in Tamarac.
