World Leaders Send Congratulations to Donald Trump After Winning Election

The international world is responding to the election of Donald Trump as president. From the European Union to world leaders in Russia and Mexico, many are reaching out to the president-elect.

Inside the Kremlin, Russian president Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump on winning. Putin says he hopes to work together to improve the currently "poor state" of relations between the two nations.

"We understand that this will not be an easy path, but we are ready to do our part and do everything to return the Russia-U.S. relations to a stable and sustainable track of development,” Putin said through a translator.

The secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, known as NATO, wrote "We face a challenging new security environment, including hybrid warfare, cyber-attacks and the threat of terrorism. U.S. Leadership is as important as ever."

The European Union - so important for strategic planning around the world - congratulated trump, adding it shares values of the U.S. Including freedom, human rights and democracy.

"Europeans trust that America, whose democratic ideals have always been a beacon of hope around the globe, will continue to invest in its partnerships with friends and allies,” the organization wrote in a letter.

British Prime Minister Teresa May sent her congratulations to Trump, confident the two powers will remain close partners

Even Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto tweeted out his well wishes in Spanish to the United States, which translated to read “Congratulations to USA for its electoral process and I reiterate to at Donald Trump the provision of working together in favor of a bilateral relationship.”

Iraq's president also congratulated Trump, wishing the United States peace and prosperity along with France’s leader.
