Armed Robbery at Weston Restaurant Caught on Camera

Two men held employee at gunpoint, officials said

Authorities released a surveillance video Friday that shows two men holding an employee at gunpoint and committing an armed robbery at a Weston restaurant, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Minutes before midnight last Saturday you can see two masked men entering through the back door of Moon Thai and Japanese Restaurant on 2818 Weston Rd. and holding up an employee at gunpoint. Investigators say the robbers forced him and other employees into a bathroom, then made a female employee open the cash register for them.

Broward sheriff's deputies say they made off with money and a manager's car.

The general manager said the Moon Thai and Japanese Restaurant is open for regular business, but did not want to comment on the investigation. He did say no employees were hurt.

"It's unnerving," said Maria Gasbarro, a color specialist at the salon next door. "You have to be aware of what's going on," she said, noting she doesn't normally work late at her job.

The tape also show one of the suspects ruffling through the shelves near the register and grabbing a female employee to open the register for him, the BSO said.

The suspects fled in a stolen 2010 Honda that belonged to one of the store managers, according to the BSO. The car was later recovered by the Davie Police Department.

Authorities ask anyone with information on the restaurant robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
