A child was airlifted to the hospital after being involved in a watercraft accident in Aventura Friday morning.
Officials with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) say a man was riding the watercraft recklessly with a 4-year-old child seated in front of him along a canal in Aventura.
The boy had been a passenger on a yacht and was taken out on the Waverunner by an employee, FWC officials said.
The man then crashed into a boat, and the child was thrown from the watercraft.
The boy went head-first into the side of the boat then fell into the water. The child was wearing a life vest, FWC says.
"Just a loud bang when the jet ski hit the boat over there," witness Devin Robinette said. "I saw them when they got the kid out of the water, I think his parents and family were over here getting him out."
Officials said the boy was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. He was in stable condition with a broken eye socket, officials said.
It's not known if there were any other injuries. No further details were immediately available.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
