Common Services Being Cut From 7 Miami-Dade County Clerk's Offices

Front-counter services at seven Miami-Dade County Clerk's offices will no longer be available starting next month, according to a public notice posted Tuesday.

Common services such as paying for a ticket, obtaining copies of cases and applying for a marriage license will not be provided at the satellite offices in the county after September 8.

County officials said the cut backs are a result of a statewide budget shortfall. A significant number of jobs are also on the line.

NBC 6 obtained a letter from Harvey Ruin, the Clerk of Courts that said the reason for the budget cuts is an expected nearly $12.5 million loss in revenue. He added that escalating costs, including the price of health care led to the cut backs.

The affected locations are Hialeah District Court, Martin Luther King Office, North Dade Justice Center, Miami Beach District Court, Coral Gables District Court, South Dade Justice Center and the Sweetwater sub-office.

Attorneys and county clerks are worried about the quality of services as bigger courthouses get an influx of visitors.

"If they're going to cut the times and the amount of locations, it's just going to make the lines longer. It's going to back up the building. It's going to make it very difficult to get the things you want done," said attorney Adam Goodman.

Residents will need to go to the county's main courthouses to obtain these services. The locations will also have reduced hours 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Officials say longer wait times are expected. You can also access the county's automated voice response system or visit its website
