Fishermen Find Body Parts Floating in Storage Container

It was not immediately apparent how long the remains were in a canal behind Country Club Middle School

Two men fishing in a Northwest Miami-Dade Canal late Friday afternoon made a horrifying discovery: human remains floating in a plastic storage container.

Police have so far been unable to determine the race, gender, or identity of the parts, found just behind Country Club Middle School near Northwest 183rd Street and Northwest 73rd Avenue.

Nor was it immediately apparent for how long they had been in the water.

"They noticed a plastic storage container and one of them went to see what was inside," said a police spokesman of the fishermen. "Once they opened the lid is when they discovered that there were human remains inside."

The pair called 911, and detectives were dispatched immediately. The remains were removed to the Medical Examiner's office for autopsy.
