A man recovering from a gunshot to the elbow faces two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer stemming from an undercover police surveillance operation.
Authorities say an undercover team saw someone in a silver car pick up a package in Daytona Beach Thursday afternoon.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports they asked police to pull over the vehicle.
Officers spotted the car backed into a driveway and the driver put his hands up like he was surrendering. As officers approached, they say 35-year-old James L. Kearse accelerated and tried to run them down. An officer fired, striking Kearse in the elbow.
Hospital officials told police Kearse came in with a gunshot wound a short time later. He was arrested.
The officers are on administrative leave, pending an investigation.
