A South Florida psychic who allegedly convinced a woman she was cursed to bilk her out of more than $30,000 over a period of several years has been arrested.
Peaches Mitchell, 22, was arrested in Palm Beach County Friday and faces charges of grand theft and obtaining property over $20,000 by fraud, authorities said.
Mitchell was released on bond, and attorney information wasn't available.
According to an arrest warrant, Mitchell, also known as Psychic Sarah, met the victim on the streets of New York City back in 2010. Mitchell told the woman she sensed a "special energy" and felt "something bad" was happening in her life, the affidavit said.
It turned out the victim had recently been discharged from Army Officer Candidate School after struggling with a chronic injury and was also undergoing an emotionally taxing divorce.
Private investigator Bob Nygaard said the victim continued to see Mitchell for three years until she realized she was being ripped off.
"Peaches reeled her into her web of deceit," Nygaard said. "She told the alleged victim there was a curse on her and that her stepmother had placed a curse on her."
The victim hired Nygaard, who tracked down Mitchell. But not before the victim had given the psychic tens of thousands of dollars plus a $7,800 Cartier watch.
"Peaches allegedly defrauded this victim of approximately $32,000," Nygaard said. "And a very nice Cartier watch."
The scam left the victim "financially devastated," according to the warrant.
