No Bond for Man Charged in Fatal Shooting at Miami Gardens Chili's

Police say man fired 5-6 shots at worker at close range in Chili's kitchen

A man accused of shooting and killing an employee inside a Miami Gardens Chili's was ordered held without bond during his first appearance in court Wednesday.

Arturo Exum, 31, is facing charges of first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon in Monday's shooting of 36-year-old Lester Reid at the restaurant at 19801 Northwest 2nd Avenue.

Detectives say Exum went to the Chili's where he shot and killed Reid in the kitchen. Exum's girlfriend is also an employee at Chili's and allegedly called Exum complaining about Reid.

Detectives say Exum fired five to six shots at close range at Reid while he was cooking, hitting him in the chest. An ambulance took Reid to Aventura Hospital where he died.

Exum's attorney turned him in to the Miami Gardens Police Department Tuesday.

"Judge at this point I guess the only thing we need to do is invoke Mr. Exum's right to remain silent," defense attorney Bill DiRenzo said at Wednesday's hearing.
