Panthers Complete Comeback Win in Overtime

The Panthers erased a two-goal deficit to beat the Islanders 3-2 in overtime on Saturday

The Florida Panthers came from behind to beat the New York Islanders 3-2 in overtime on Saturday at BB&T Center.

After two periods of play, things looked dire for Florida. The Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead and the Panthers had shown little reason for hope of a comeback. Once the third period got underway, Florida turned things around which set up the game-winner in OT.

Kyle Rau used a slap shot to cut the deficit in half at the 8:56 mark of the third period. Assisting on Florida's first score of the day were Michael Matheson and Derek MacKenzie.

Jonathan Marchessault continued to pace the team with his eighth goal of the season. Marchessault's score came with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. Aleksander Barkov and Keith Yandle both assisted on the game-tying score.

Denis Malgin's third goal of the year gave Florida the win as OT was coming to an end. With just 46 seconds left before a shootout, Malgin found the back of the net with help from Matheson and Vincent Trochek.

Florida will begin a four-game road trip on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
