In a heartbreaker of a race early Saturday morning, U.S. Runner LaShawn Merritt failed to qualify for the 400-meter, as he suddenly slowed down and pulled out with a hamstring injury. Merritt was hoping to defend his his 2008 gold medal in the 400m while trying to overcome a touchy hamstring that flared up two weeks ago and the humiliation of a two-year ban from competition for a failed drug test that he blamed on an over-the-counter penis enlargement drug.
