Man Accused of Killing Wife and Stepdaughter Held Without Bond

Eric Eugene Montogomery, 32, faces two counts of premeditated murder. He was arrested at his mother's house in Fort Lauderdale on Monday morning.

A man was held without bond on Tuesday after being accused of fatally shooting his wife and stepdaughter and wounding his grandmother in Lauderhill on New Year's Day.

Eric Eugene Montgomery, 32, faces two counts of premeditated murder. He was arrested at his mother's house in Fort Lauderdale on Monday morning.

On Sunday night, Lauderhill Police found the bodies of Natalia and Alexis Hamilton.

Police said Montgomery shot and killed his 34-year-old wife, Natalia Hamilton, and 19-year-old stepdaughter, Alexis Hamilton, after a fight at their home at 1391 NW 55th Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. They were both shot multiple times with a rifle, Judge John Hurley said in court.

Montgomery's 73-year-old grandmother, Bertharee Tomlin of Oakland Park, was also shot in the forearm and taken to Broward General Hospital and is expected to be OK, police said.

Hurley said that Montgomery's sister saw what had happened. She said Montgomery was allegedly out of control, they tried to calm him down, and he ordered people out of the house, Hurley said. When they wouldn't leave, he came out with a gun, pointed it at Alexis Hamilton, and allegedly pulled the trigger several times, Hurley said. Tomlin fled to the laundry room and hid on the floor and was shielding Natalia Hamilton from him, Hurley said.

"At some point you told your grandmother, 'Move grandma, move grandma'," Hurley said.

He pointed the gun directly at Natalia Hamilton and fired several rounds, one of the rounds allegedly went through her and struck the grandmother in the arm, Hurley said.

Alexis Hamilton was a student at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, according to police.

A 7-year-old girl and another adult who were in the home at the time of the shooting were unharmed. Authorities said Montgomery fled the scene in his 2004 Ford F-150, which was found at the scene of his arrest Monday.

He had been out on probation for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and was held without bond on that too.
