Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in Sword Attack: Lauderhill Police

Video showed Jovaughn Walker allegedly hitting one man several times with a pole, then later attacking another man with a sword, police said

A man who was caught on video attacking an elderly man with a pole at a gas station and wildly swinging a sword at another man was behind bars in Broward County, Florida, Monday, authorities said.

Jovaughn Walker, 22, is facing charges including attempted murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, carjacking and possession of cannabis after police said he went on a violent rampage in Lauderhill Sunday.

Walker was being held without bond Monday, jail records showed. It was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

Police said the first attack happened just after 10 a.m. at the Shell station at 1901 N. State Road 7, where Walker allegedly attacked an 81-year-old man with a metal shelving pole.

Video showed Walker hitting the man several times in the head with the pole before leaving the store, police said.

Walker attacked the man for no apparent reason, police said.

About an hour later, Walker attacked a 49-year-old man with a sword at the Swap Shop at 3295 W. Sunrise Boulevard, police said. Video showed the victim falling to the ground and helplessly trying to fend off Walker, who repeatedly swung the sword at the man.

Police said Walker had grabbed the sword from a store display, and the victim is an employee of a booth in the Swap Shop.

Both victims were hospitalized but are expected to be okay.
