A woman who jumped off the William Powell Bridge at the Rickenbacker Causeway Sunday evening was likely acting on a dare, officials said.
The 22-year-old woman was with friends when she jumped off the bridge and into the water below around 6 p.m., Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.
A man who was snorkeling saw the woman jump and swam to her side after he saw her in trouble when she surfaced, Carroll said. The Miami Fire Rescue Dive Team brought the woman to waiting paramedics who took her to Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.
Carroll said witnesses heard people encouraging the unidentified woman to jump, and said it wasn't a suicide attempt.
